MEI Receives Highest Supplier Honor From
Global Manufacturer Analog Devices, Inc.
MEI Grew From Approximately 65 To 100 Employees in 2006; Revenue
Predicted To Double in 2007
Albany, OR. April 6, 2007 – 2006 was a good year for
Oregon-based MEI, and 2007 looks bright. At an awards ceremony in Hong Kong
recently, Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) bestowed its highest supplier honor – the
2006 Supplier Excellence Award – on MEI in the Special Achievements category.
MEI was one of just 10 suppliers worldwide to receive the honor
from ADI, the global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal
processing applications. It is the fourth consecutive year MEI has won the
award.
“We were extremely fortunate to be collaborating with ‘best in
class’ suppliers like MEI who supported us in achieving our goals and
contributed greatly to our success in 2006,” said Liam McCaffrey, manager of
purchasing in world manufacturing for Analog Devices. “MEI continues to look for
additional ways to contribute to ADI's performance and it is this effort and
their consistent excellent performance which has won them this award.”
Based on an exacting supplier rating program, the ADI Supplier
Awards recognize those suppliers who distinguish themselves in multiple
categories, including consistent, outstanding performance and continuous
improvement; strategic contribution to ADI’s technology and market leadership;
anticipation and delivery of cost reduction initiatives; and exemplary
commitment to manufacturing excellence.
In the past year, the semiconductor industry has faced rising
energy costs, price increase pressures in the supply chain, and capacity
constraints, creating a stronger need for business innovation. MEI rose to the
occasion in a decidedly low-tech fashion: by focusing on customer needs, taking
the time to understand their customers’ business models and the issues they
face. “In the case of Analog Devices, that partnership has led to an expansion
of our services to them each year,” said Dan Cappello, chief executive officer
of MEI. “For example, in addition to process equipment and service contracts,
last year we also provided Analog with bulk chemical delivery systems and
crating and rigging services. Particularly with regard to crating and rigging,
we were able to anticipate their needs so they could more efficiently and
effectively transfer equipment to their different worldwide facilities as their
corporate strategy and needs changed.”
Meanwhile, bookings and billings for semiconductor manufacturing
equipment from North American-based companies have increased, posting $1.71
billion in orders in January, 14 percent higher than December 2006, according to
the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials Institute (SEMI), a global trade
association.
With a growing staff and continued focus on service, MEI is
poised to serve the growing needs of semiconductor manufacturers. The company’s
head count increased by 54 percent in 2006, and its revenue is predicted to
double in 2007.
“Receiving the Analog Devices Supplier Excellence Award for the
fourth consecutive year is an honor, and caps off a great year of growth and
productivity for MEI,” said Cappello. “We continue to strive for excellence in
our performance by providing superior value to our customers.”
